Zoltán Lukoczki explores the origins of one of his plants showing similarities to Echinocereus blanckii. The taxon was long known as a synonym of Echinocereus berlandieri, but this view may be incorrect. N. P. Taylor indicated that Cereus blanckii, described by Poselger may be a synonym of Echinocereus enneacanthus var. brevispinus. In the collection of the author, there is an old plant, labelles as Echinocereus blanckii, but it does not fit to the criteria of E. enneacanthus.
